Profile

Fabio has more than seventeen years of experience in intellectual property, contracts and entertainment law. He focuses his practice on information technology, personal data protection and privacy, digital law, internet, software, IT outsourcing, licensing, transactions involving IT and intangible assets and contracts in general. He is also recognized for his expertise in media & communications. With respect to his IP practice, Fabio provides legal support to clients in copyrights, trademarks, patents, franchising and technology transfer in various industries and market segments. He is also an expert in licensing, entertainment & media (music, television and digital), in advertising and in IT, including cloud computing services and complex technology transactions. Fabio advises clients in sophisticated commercial transactions involving intangible assets and IP rights.

In entertainment, Fabio drafts and analyses contracts for audiovisual productions and co-productions for the television and film industries, advising on agreements for artistic productions and sports events, as well as publication of literary works, cultural productions, phonogram distribution through all types of media, fundraising and financing. In the sports field, he deals with sponsorship agreements, naming rights, licensing agreements, providing expert legal consultation for the transmission and broadcasting of events, image rights and ambush marketing.

In the technology area, he drafts and reviews IT-related agreements supporting the development, commercialization, licensing, importation and exportation of software and hardware, including contracts for IT outsourcing. He provides legal consultation on issues relating to Research & Development in the technological field, e-commerce, social media and social-commerce, including ISP responsibility and content providers' responsibility towards consumers. Fabio also deals with online advertising and online marketing, as well as with the production, dissemination and transmission of content through digital media. He develops and reviews privacy and terms of use policies for websites, policies for the use of web beacons and management of cookies, as well as internal policies for corporate internet use. He has a strong background in IT outsourcing and in privacy and data protection. He advises multinational players, such as Dell, Bloomberg, Fox Channels, HBO, Scripps Networks, PVH, Inc., among others. In his R&D and IT initiatives and under the Brazilian National Public Policy Rules, he works with centers of excellence in Brazil, giving the necessary support for the development and protection of intangible assets.

Prior to leading the Intellectual Property practice in our office in Sao Paulo and our areas of Information Technology and Media, Sports & Entertainment, Fabio worked as in-house counsel for TV Globo and for the Roberto Marinho Foundation for a number of years, where he was responsible for all legal support required for the establishment of the Futura Channel TV station, including acting as liaison with regulatory authorities. He was also charged with negotiating a wide range of agreements with public and private entities in Brazil and abroad.

In the United Kingdom, Fabio was a Legal Affairs & Intellectual Property Manager for the University College London Hospitals, following the conclusion of his Masters' degree at Queen Mary College, University of London. During his tenure, he was responsible for the negotiation of large-scale projects relating to the pharmaceutical industry, Research & Development, including the protection and exploitation of innovation and medical devices.
