The First Conference of the Americas which took place in Mexico City from February 27th to March 1st was the perfect opportunity for legal professionals to network, share information and identify issues, concerns and opportunities across the Americas' legal markets and jurisdictions. WSG sponsored the "Welcome Cocktail" on February 28th at the Franz Mayer Museum, a beautiful building located in the center of the city. Members from Venezuela, USA, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Chile, Ireland and Spain participated in this Conference organized by the IBA.

Shepherd and Wedderburn, WSG member in Scotland, hosted an energy conference for WSG members at their London offices on 28 February 2008. The seminar focused on the Commission's third energy package specifically issues surrounding (ownership) unbundling of vertically integrated energy companies and the (current and proposed) industry regulatory framework. Speakers from Ergeg (the European Regulators' Group for Electricity and Gas) and NERA (the International Economic Consultancy Firm) gave presentations on the current regulatory framework provoking discussion amongst attendees of the potential implications of the Commission's liberalization proposals.
