Dear WSG friends:
The first quarter of 2010 has started finding us full of energy and projects being fulfilled. A very
successful North American Regional Conference took place at the end of February in Miami, FL. The meeting
was hosted by Akerman Senterfitt, the local legal member; it was organized by the North American Regional
Council together with our WSG staff. Participants had the opportunity to enjoy high voltage sessions and very
pleasant networking and social activities.
In addition, the Canadian firms announced the completion of the 200 + page "Doing business in Canada" publication
which includes legal practice sections for each region of the country. The book has been an ongoing effort
for the region for several months and has been received with great support.
On March 24th, our African colleagues and fellow WSG members gathered in Cape Town for the first
African Regional Meeting hosted by Webber Wentzel, WSG Legal member of South Africa. They had a
productive discussion on WSG growth and benefits for the Region, as well as presentations that
included "Africa ADR - An Authentic Arbitral Voice for Africa" and a round table discussion
on "Legal Practices of Non-African firms on the Continent - Collaborations, Networks and Branches". This
meeting offered great networking opportunities for professionals doing business in and with the region.
There are also many activities already planned for the rest of the year. I hope that many of
our fellow WSG members will make an effort to participate. One of the best ways of receiving the
benefits of our membership is participating, so I hope that you will all try to take advantage of
the opportunities that are being given.
Additionally, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to our new Legal members from Croatia,
Divjak, Topic & Bahtijarevic, and the firm Plesner of Denmark. Welcome aboard!
I sincerely hope that this year will be great for all of us at WSG!
