Times Are Changing:Social Media Should We or Have We Already?

Times are changing - an internationally accepted phrase by "experienced and mature individuals" across the globe no matter what race, creed, religion or profession. Nothing can be more true when it comes to the internet and virtual communication. It seems the latest craze is social media. While there are many things on the internet corporations can chalk up to the youngest of users, personal fulfillment or just a phase, most professionals agree social media will not fit solely into one of those categories, but instead can be a great tool for the wise. And if you are reading this, you have taken your first step probably without even knowing it.

Here are some basic steps that you have already taken in beginning your social media journey:

1) Find a Social Media Tool that works for you ... it does not have to be one open to the entire internet community, but should be one that is focused on you and your firm's objectives. World Services Group: WSG offers a niche place for you to focus on meeting your firm’s specific objectives not the world's general objectives for the industry. Just by having your firm’s page on the site, you are reaping the benefits of infinite views because of the networks size. Additionally, WSG offers most social media tools for your benefit if you choose to use them.

2) Privacy... most firms in the service industry have privacy concerns; after all, we all succeed based on our reputation, so we hold it closely and take it very seriously. World Services Group: WSG markets the network with the utmost professional terms keeping the standards high and monitoring all communication for the best interest of the membership.

3) Move Cautiously... social media on the net can be very beneficial, but it can also be intimidating. Embrace the idea that social media is here to stay, but be cautious on what level it is here to stay for your industry. World Services Group: WSG is proceeding slowly into clear and managed partnerships that are beneficial to our firms. We weigh all the benefits and the dangers lurking behind different options and slowly introduce them to our organization allowing our members to take part through WSG or individually as they get more comfortable.

In the service industry, we all succeed based on our reputation which, of course, comes from clients learning about the best value of service and the most mutual benefit they can receive at just the right price i.e. marketing. To summarize how social media can have an effect on your firm, we take a page from Neetal Parekh, "Social media has changed the game of marketing. It makes a firm more accessible to its clients and potential clients. And it allows a firm practicing in a niche specialty to inform and engage the legal and general community about particular areas of law. And where an attorney and firm's time is limited by hours in the day and existing caseloads, social media features give your firm a virtual presence event when an actual presence is not possible. And though law firms are advised to think critically before jumping into the social media pool, fear of water shouldn't keep a firm from swimming. The potential benefits a law firm can reap from being active in social media are still being discovered."
