James Brand is a senior associate in the environmental department at ENSafrica. He specialises in renewable energy projects, waste management, water law, environmental authorisation and land-use planning related matters.
He has acted for international and local clients as well as government entities, national parks and nature reserves in a number of industries and sectors including mining, nuclear energy, construction, agriculture and aquaculture.
Jamesâ€™ experience includes advising on a variety of environmental law issues, including renewable energy projects under the South African governmentâ€™s renewable energy procurement process, as well as advising clients in accordance with the National Environmental Management Waste Act 59 of 2008 and other related legislation, waste classification, and negotiating and drafting carbon trading contracts in terms of the Kyoto Protocol.
He also advises on water related disputes, water liability issues and water use licence requirements as well as on damage to property and the environment.
He has been involved in representing interested and affected landowners in opposition to potentially environmentally damaging developments, including landfill sites, harbour developments and illegal dam structures.
