Janet Ayyad Ismail is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Janet serves as a trusted litigator and advisor to clients who have come to value and respect Janet for her advocacy and analytical skills, practical advice, strategies for minimizing risks of litigation, and her dedication to helping them navigate the complexities of labor and employment law. Janet’s hybrid practice includes the representation of clients in litigation and non-litigation matters involving a variety of labor and employment issues.

During her career, Janet has defended clients during employment-related investigations as well as lawsuits in both federal and state court involving Title VII, § 1981, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, FMLA, OSHA, breach of contract claims and employment-related torts. Janet has prosecuted and defended complex unfair competition-related claims, including breach of non-competition agreements, misappropriation of trade secrets, tortious interference and breach of fiduciary duty claims. Through such litigation experience, Janet had become a trusted advisor and leader regarding the management, review and analysis of forensic data and electronic discovery.

Apart from her litigation work, Janet regularly provides advice and counsel to employers concerning a variety of employment issues. Janet serves as a trusted adviser for compliance issues related to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Janet’s experience also includes advice and counsel to leadership during major transactions, including advising on labor and employment aspects of purchase agreements, drafting employment and related agreements, and navigating labor and employment issues and concerns in connection with the transaction. In addition, clients regularly turn to Janet for assistance drafting and reviewing severance and release agreements, employment agreements, confidentiality, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, employee handbooks and workplace policies and procedures. As a member of the firm’s Social Media Practice Group, Janet has experience drafting and reviewing social media policies for clients and providing advice and counsel to employers concerning the effects of social media in the workplace and proper disciplinary measures for infractions occurring over social media. Janet frequently speaks on a variety of employment topics, including social media in the workplace and disability and leave of absence issues.

Janet recognizes the importance of giving back to the community through leadership, service, and mentorship. When not working on behalf of her clients, Janet participates in various charitable events in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the American Heart Association, and Dallas Challenge. As a member of the UT System Chancellor’s Centurions, Janet has remained an active alumna of the UT System, discussing the challenges and opportunities facing public higher education in Texas, as well as promoting the breadth of the UT System.

In September 2017, Janet received the Buhrmester Rising Star Award from the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas, which recognizes a graduate who has shown outstanding early-career accomplishment. She has been selected for inclusion in Texas Super Lawyers Rising Stars, Thomson Reuters, for Employment and Labor, from 2013-2017.
