Tangible Results Speak Louder Than Well-Intentioned Inclusion Words

September, 2014 - Bonnie Mayfield and Thomas L. Sager

Bonnie Mayfield, Bloomfield Hills-based attorney and member in Dykema’s Litigation Practice, co-authored an article—“Tangible Results Speak Louder Than Well-Intentioned Inclusion Words,”—which appears in the August issue of DRI’s monthly publication, For The Defense. Thomas L. Sager, then Senior Vice President and General Counsel for DuPont Legal, was the other co-author.

In the article, Mayfield and Sager highlight research that reveals that women and women of color still have uphill challenges in the field of law. However, while progress in this area has been incremental at best, the article points out that there is still reason for optimism. Additionally, the article discusses some strategies to help include women and women of color through sustained and positive outcomes.

Mayfield is the vice chair of the International Association of Defense Counsel’s Diversity Committee. Sager is a past chair of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA). The MCCA’s Thomas L. Sager Award was established in his name and is given in recognition of his individual efforts and achievements to promote diversity in the legal profession.
