Garrigues Leads in Global Project Finance Deals
MADRID, January 14, 2009 – Leading Spanish law firm Garrigues has claimed a place among the world’s top ten legal advisors in the field of project finance in terms of volume, making it the only independent European firm to feature in the 2008 ranking published in the Dealogic Project Finance Review (attached). According to the renowned publication, Garrigues closed deals worth $6.4 billion, accounting for 2.2% of Global Project Finance deals.
Garrigues took the runner-up spot in terms of number of deals, with a total of 52 transactions, second only to Allen & Overy with 72.
Garrigues has successfully made it into the list of leading legal advisors in a year which saw the volume of Global Project Finance deals increase by 13% to $315 billion. This increase has been particularly strong in Spain, up 83% on 2007.
The head of Garrigues’ Project Finance area, José Guardo, sees the results as yet another sign that Garrigues is “undisputedly Spain’s leading law firm”. The fact that most of the deals were closed in Spain bears witness to the great potential of the firm in the Iberian market.
