Haynes and Boone Transaction Recognized as Cross Border Deal of the Year by Global M&A Network

August, 2014 - Dallas, Texas

The Global M&A Network has selected Strides Arcolab’s transaction with Mylan, Inc. as its M&A Atlas Global Major Markets Cross Border Deal of the Year in the $1-$5 billion category, recognizing Haynes and Boone, LLP’s role as U.S. counsel to Strides Arcolab. The award honors top deals, dealmakers and firms.

Haynes and Boone, along with firms in several jurisdictions, advised Strides Arcolab in its sale of Agila Specialties Global Private Ltd., a generic drug maker of injectable medicines, to Mylan for approximately $1.6 billion. The sale allows Mylan access to a complementary injectable drug portfolio and emerging markets worldwide.

“We are honored to be included in this designation,” said Lou Solomon, partner in Haynes and Boone’s New York Office. “The transaction is a great example of the firm’s strengths and capabilities in advising clients in cross border matters.”

The firm’s deal team was led by New York Partner Solomon, Washington, D.C. Partner Jeff Wolfson, Dallas Partners Vicki Martin-Odette and Eric Williams, and New York Associate Alex Grishman. Counsel Evert Tu and Associate Chris Perez also assisted in the transaction.

The Strides Arcolab transaction was also listed as a finalist in the Global M&A Deal of the Year and Pharma & Medical Device Deal of the Year categories. Most recently, Bloomberg’s M&A Legal Advisory League Tables ranked Haynes and Boone No. 10 for its counsel in the transaction in the “India Announced Deals” category.

Honorees are selected based on criteria such as deal novelty/structure, sector/jurisdiction/market complexities, synergies/rationale/style, financial value, brand competitiveness, leadership, tenacity, resourcefulness and additional related metrics.

Winners were honored on June 12 at the awards gala dinner at the Harvard Club of New York.

The firm has earned multiple honors for its cross border experience including Latin Lawyer’s 2013 Restructuring Deal of the Year, for serving as counsel to the consenting creditors in the groundbreaking bankruptcy case of Mexico’s largest glassmaker, Vitro; and LatinFinance’s 2013 Domestic M&A Deal of the Year,” for representing Afore XXI Banorte in the $1.6 billion acquisition of Afore Bancomer from Spain’s Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria.

In addition, Haynes and Boone represented Fermaca’s subsidiary, Tarahumara Pipeline, S.de R.L. de C.V, in its successful public auction bid to build and operate the US $440 million, 380-kilometer Chihuahua pipeline. The Chihuahua project was awarded Project Finance Deal of the Year for 2012 by Project Finance Magazine.
