Another Coup for ENSafrica As It Attracts Leading Mining, Employment and Finance Regulatory Specialists

April, 2017 - Cape Town, South Africa

In the latest in a string of senior appointments, ENSafrica has scored a major coup by attracting respected mining law expert Ntsiki Adonisi-Kgame, employment law litigator Joe Mothibi and financial specialist Ina Meiring to the firm’s ranks in South Africa.

This brings the number of the firm’s new executives over the past few months to over 20, cementing ENSafrica’s position as Africa’s largest law firm. This figure includes recent promotions, in line with the firm’s dedication to nurturing talent internally.
Mzi Mgudlwa, ENSafrica’s chief executive, said: “We are pleased that we continue to attract top talent to the firm, enabling us to scale new heights in both offering and service, and ensure that we remain focused on what is best for our clients. These latest appointments come shortly after ENSafrica was recognised for its excellent technical expertise and its dedication to clients’ interests by the prestigious international ratings agency Chambers and Partners. Having the right people on board enables us to maintain these world-class standards.”

Adonisi-Kgame, Mothibi and Meiring are based at the firm’s Sandton, Johannesburg office.

Adonisi-Kgame was a member of the firm’s mining department until 2014 and has spent the past two years as general counsel for a leading mining group, where she was responsible for the group’s entire legal function and regulatory compliance. This experience as general counsel, together with her expert knowledge of mining law, gives Adonisi-Kgame unique know-how regarding the mining industry and makes her a sought-after trusted advisor.

Otsile Matlou, head of the mining department and the firm’s chief operating officer for firm integration, commented that: “I am thrilled that Ntsiki has agreed to re-join the firm to bolster our mining practice. Having worked closely with her for many years, I can attest to Ntsiki’s excellent technical acumen and the unique insight she has gained due to her unparalleled practice experience.” He added that while Adonisi-Kgame’s appointment brought unique expertise and know-how to the firm’s mining offering, her presence in the team was particularly relevant given the traditional gender bias within the mining sector.

With over 20 years of experience, Mothibi is regarded as one of South Africa’s most eminent employment law practitioners. His areas of specialty are employment litigation, as well as contentious, transactional and advisory aspects of individual, collective and general employment law. In its recently published 2017 Global Guide, Chambers and Partners said: “Joe Mothibi is well regarded for his expertise across a broad range of labour law concerns, with noteworthy aptitude in litigation. Clients recognise that he is ‘very knowledgeable and dependable’ and is ‘always willing to step in and assist’ at any time.”
Head of ENSafrica’s employment department, Brian Patterson, said: “We are pleased that Joe has chosen to join ENSafrica. He is undoubtedly one of the country’s leading employment litigation experts and his exceptional skills complement those of our already strong employment team.”

Meiring has 40 years of experience and is considered to be one of South Africa’s finest finance regulatory experts, with a stellar reputation in the industry. Meiring’s experience includes advising on banking and financial services regulation, consumer law and corporate governance, including exchange control, securitisations, payment instruments and payment methods.
Sean Lederman, joint head of ENSafrica’s banking and finance department, said: “We are delighted to have Ina on board. Her formidable experience, which includes holding the position of group legal counsel for one of the country’s leading financial institutions, lecturing at two universities and a decade in private practice, will substantially fortify our already strong regulatory practice.”

ENSafrica has over 600 practitioners in 15 offices across the continent, in Ghana, Mauritius, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
