Haynes and Boone Patent Team Again Ranked Among U.S. Best

March, 2018 - Dallas, Texas

Haynes and Boone, LLP's Patent Prosecution Practice Group has been ranked among the nation's best by financial services firm Ocean Tomo and IAM based on data from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Ocean Tomo/IAM's 2017 Leading Law Firm Report listed Haynes and Boone seventh among the top 10 firms for information technology patent work. The company, which provides intellectual property-related services, said its analysis is designed to "celebrate the achievements of U.S. law firms which ... provide the most potent mix of high-volume, high-quality patent prosecution work" before the USPTO.

The rankings were derived from information about the firms with the most U.S. utility patents issued over the previous three years and include only patents that had both a prosecuting attorney on the issued patent and an assignee. Patents with no assignee on record were excluded.

Ocean Tomo/IAM said the firms ranked highly for the quality of their prosecution practices "share a number of traits," including: having diverse teams of experienced attorneys to develop a prosecution strategy for each invention; monitoring recent decisions at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the courts, as well as notable market transactions, to understand the characteristics of those patents which withstand scrutiny and garner financial returns; and securing options for future markets, as well as legal and administrative changes through strategic and detailed dependent claim drafting.

"It's gratifying to see Haynes and Boones Patent Prosecution Practice receive praise and recognition for our diverse, experienced teams," said Jeff Wolfson, chair of the Patent Prosecution Practice Group.

Haynes and Boone's Patent Prosecution and Counseling Practice Group provides clients with a full range of services to protect and profit from their intellectual property. The patent team has filed more than 11,000 applications worldwide in the past five years and offers sophisticated counseling and complex portfolio management, as well as representation in post-grant proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and support for our IP litigation practice in federal court litigations and cases before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

All of the firm's patent lawyers and substantially all of the firm's dedicated patent litigators have technical or science degrees and backgrounds, having worked as computer programmers, doctors, engineers, chemists, microbiologists and biochemists, physicists, technical salespeople and more. Many team members have worked extensively in their respective fields as entrepreneurs, teachers/university faculty, inventors and in-house counsel. As a result, the team can focus on delivering practical solutions and achieving business goals for clients, whether they are startups, middle-market companies or large multinational corporations.

In addition, Haynes and Boone recently was ranked No. 2 among patent law firms in the United States by Juristat, a leading patent analytics company focused on Patent Office practice.
