8. Guest Speaker Presentation: Legal Project Management: Why, What, and How

Clients today demand more value and better predictability, specifically alternative fee arrangements (AFA) or budgets. To deliver an AFA profitability or to work to a budget requires actively managing a matter. Consequently, many firms are adopting "legal project management" (LPM). In this session, you will learn what LPM is, what is driving its adoption, how firms can do it, and why and when it might be right for your firm.

One of the big LPM challenges is creating a budget. For what client and what types of matters does it make sense. To flesh out these issues and illustrate the opportunities - and the challenges - we will have a moderated discussion with two experienced litigators, including a short exercise to illustrate what is involved in constructing a budget.
