2. Keynote Speaker Presentation: The Renaissance of Professional Firms in 2020 and Beyond

 

Professionals are a group that is knowledge-intensive, enjoys considerable work autonomy and are regulated by strict moral, ethical and professional standards. Many a time professionals are respected and find themselves indispensable. However, the environment for professional services has over gone monumental changes in recent years. Are they going to be replaced? By whom? Or maybe even - by what? How do they survive and thrive?

 

The presentation addressed the following topics: the technology trends affecting and disrupting the professional services industry today; the challenges and thrive on the technology and how to address them; and the other factors needed to ensure a successful transformation.

3. Panel Discussion: Offshore M&A in China

 

The panel discussion touched on topics of Mergers & Acquisitions in China, and included the following issues: What laws, regulations and policies of your country are involved in cross-border M&A? What forms of cross-border M&A are adopted? What are the difficulties of cross-border M&A in your country? How can WSG members benefit from the booming M&A transactions in Asia particularly in China?

5. Guest Speaker Presentation: New Trends and Challenges for Independent Firms in a Fast-Moving APAC Region

 

A series of recent consolidations, new entrants and market liberation measures in Asia Pacific, along with shifting balance in the global economy, has changed the pecking order and work portfolio of law firms in the region. The presentation highlighted some of the key changes and developments that impacts the strategy and growth of both international and independent firms. It underlined the new opportunities and challenges facing independent firms by singling out various high-profile examples.

6. Panel Discussion: Corporate Governance/Transparency in the Asia Pacific Region

 

This panel discussion outlined an overview of the recent developments and enhancement in corporate governance regulations in each respective jurisdiction, including any efforts and initiatives to improve. The panel also touched on implementation, enforcement, and the expectations on corporate governance from a cross-border investments perspective.
