Richard is an experienced lawyer who provides counsel on strategic projects across the technology, entertainment and sports sectors. He is listed in The Lawyer Hot 2019 for his ground breaking work setting up Shoosmiths’ Sports practice.
As well advising on some of the sporting world’s biggest deals his experience includes negotiating cross border joint ventures, developing and executing litigation strategies in multiple jurisdictions and working on key outsourcing, IP exploitation (including content/broadcast rights), sponsorship, distribution and agency arrangements.
As Legal Manager for the Nike Football Business Units, General Counsel for Umbro and then VP International Counsel for Iconix Brand Group Inc he managed legal teams and budgets on a global level and worked with lawyers from the top US firms through to small boutiques. His experience of working at the front line in competitive global markets enables him to provide expert, results-orientated and responsive legal advice.
