Chuck Stewart is a trial lawyer of more than 30 years, having successfully tried a vast number of cases, primarily in the defense of corporations in product liability, employment, business disputes, class actions, intellectual property, antitrust, construction, and catastrophic personal injury matters. He serves as co-chair of the firm’s Product Liability team, is licensed in Alabama and Tennessee, and has extensive litigation experience on a national scope. He has represented clients in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. This experience has equipped him with the ability to defend against high-stakes litigation across the nation.
Although most of his cases fall into one of the aforementioned categories, Chuck has also successfully tried several other types of complex cases, including a six-week-long class action price-fixing case, a racial steering case involving the sale of real estate, and a breach of contract and fraud matter filed against a company by its group health insurer. He successfully defended the trial of a start-up corporation in a lawsuit brought by a major movie distributor, involving claims of copyright infringement, intentional interference with contractual relations, deceptive trade practices, and breach of contract. Chuck has also represented attorneys, hospitals, and architects in actions alleging malpractice.
Chuck speaks regularly on topics within his areas of practice. He has been very active in practice-related organizations such as the DRI, IADC, FDCC, and ALFA International. He served on the Board of Directors for DRI and later became Chair of the Product Liability Committee. He has been very active in DRI’s Corporate Counsel Roundtable from its very inception. Chuck was elected President of the Alabama Defense Lawyer’s Association at the age of 39. Chuck has been a certified mediator for approximately 20 years, and serves as both a private mediator and arbitrator.
