Jeff Allen joined the firm in 2008 and focuses his practice on entertainment and intellectual property litigation, as well as entertainment transactional matters. Recognized by Chambers USA as an up and coming media and entertainment attorney, he is described by a client as “extremely knowledgeable, helpful, resourceful, and dependable” (Chambers USA 2020).
He has handled cases involving personal management and songwriting contract disputes, complex royalty disputes, copyright termination, copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and right of publicity. Additionally, he has negotiated personal management agreements, exclusive recording agreements, exclusive songwriter agreements, talent agreements, copyright transfer and assignment agreements, domestic and foreign licensing agreements, production agreements, distribution agreements, and joint venture record label and publishing company agreements for entertainment industry clients. Further, Jeff regularly prepares and completes copyright and trademark registration applications for music and entertainment clients. He has also served as legal counsel on all stages of an independent film production and frequently works with clients in the television and sports industries.
Jeff earned his law degree (cum laude) from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in December 2007. While working on his law degree, he served as Senior Research Editor of the Florida Law Review. He received his undergraduate degree (summa cum laude) in Anthropology from Vanderbilt University in 2002. Prior to law school, Jeff worked as an Honors Paralegal Specialist at the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection in Washington, D.C. He served as Co-Chair of the Nashville Bar Association’s Entertainment, Sports & Media Law Committee for 4 years and currently serves on the Executive Council of the Tennessee Bar Association’s Entertainment and Sports Law Section and on the Board of Directors for the W.O. Smith Music School.
