Profile

Monica Dozier is co-chair of Bradley’s Renewable Energy team. Monica represents developers, contractors, and engineers in utility-scale, C&I, and residential renewable energy projects, focusing on risk mitigation and dispute avoidance throughout the development, construction, operation, and maintenance phases of projects.

Monica has significant experience drafting and negotiating EPC, O&M, and other project agreements for clients and projects around the world. She works with clients to tailor and negotiate agreements to these projects according to specific risk assessments, coordinating risk assumption among parties upstream and downstream. She also advises clients in project management decisions and managing claim procedures with the goal of avoiding litigation. Consistent with this goal, she often presents client-focused seminars training legal, executive and project teams in early identification and management of risk at every stage of development, construction and operation, customized to the client’s agreements and risk profile.

Monica also drafts and negotiates supply agreements, partnering with clients to allocate and manage shifting risks in international procurement, including but not limited to import taxes and tariffs, anti-dumping and countervailing duties, and compliance with prohibitions against the use of forced labor.

Monica regularly assists clients with developing project finance strategies and related compliance obligations. She has experience implementing programs necessary to ensure payment of prevailing wages and participation of apprentices sufficient to comply with the requirements of Sections 45(b)(6)-(8) and 48(a)(9)-(11) of the Internal Revenue Code, as amended by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. She also advises clients in EPC proposals and procurement negotiations designed to ensure project eligibility for the domestic content investment tax credit bonus established by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Monica has extensive knowledge of trade and professional licensing laws and regulations nationwide, and advises clients seeking to obtain and maintain licenses and in ensuring compliance with engineering, architectural, and contractor licensing laws and regulations.

Monica believes that no client’s core business is litigation, and understands the significant pressures of fast-paced renewable energy projects. She strives to provide legal advice as a business partner with her clients in order to reach optimal solutions for all parties and to preserve a project’s profitability. In the event of unavoidable litigation, Monica provides experienced litigation (or alternative dispute resolution) management services, representing clients in high-stakes disputes without losing focus on the ultimate business goals. She is committed to her clients’ successes in today’s global energy industry.

Monica is also a member of Bradley’s Cybersecurity and Privacy team, advising energy clients on critical infrastructure cybersecurity issues and emerging risks in the era of grid electrification. She is an active member of the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association and E4 Carolinas, where she is a graduate of its Energy Executive Leaders Program and currently serves on the Communications Task Force. She is a member and past chair of the Excellence in Construction Committee with Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas, and serves on the board of EarthShare North Carolina, a coalition of nonprofit organizations that have a shared purpose to improve the health of the environment in North Carolina. In 2022, Monica was named to the Charlotte Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40,” and has been honored as one of the “40 Gators Under 40” by the University of Florida Alumni Association.
