Profile

Christoph Burckhardt is an associate in the Corporate/M&A Team as well as the Employment Law Team. He advises clients on matters of commercial and corporate law, M&A, venture capital, financing as well as contract law with focus on employment law and represents parties in court. Being a co-founder and legal counsel of an insurtech start-up company, he is experienced in advising companies shortly before and after incorporation. Part of his research focuses on sustainability and ESG regulation and its impact on corporations, namely with regard to non-financial reporting and benefit corporations.

Christoph Burckhardt studied at the Universities of Basel and Geneva (BLaw 2012, MLaw 2014), at Harvard Law School (LL.M. 2022), and completed his doctoral thesis on loyalty shares at the University of Zurich (Dr. iur. 2023). Before joining Walder Wyss as an associate, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Zurich and, as a lawyer in the legal department of an international pharmaceutical company in Basel. He was admitted to the bar in the canton of Basel-Stadt in 2016.

In addition to his professional activities Christoph Burckhardt is a member of the Citizen's Municipal Council of Basel, reserve officer of the Swiss Armed Forces and a judge at a Military Court of Appeals.

Christoph Burckhardt's professional languages are German, English and French. He is registered with the bar registry of the canton of Basel-Stadt and is authorised to represent cases throughout Switzerland.
