Profile

Thorsten A Wieland is a partner in the Frankfurt office of Heuking Kuehn Lueer Wojtek and a member of the firm’s IP, media and technology group.

Thorsten is frequently named in legal directories for his excellence in IP work. He won a Client Choice Award (Competition - Germany) in 2013.

Thorsten focuses on IP and unfair competition law and advises clients from the luxury brand and consumer goods industries. He is a specialist on anti-counterfeiting strategies and has coordinated and implemented effective national and international anti-counterfeiting programmes for clients.

Thorsten has been at the forefront of advising up-and-coming international apparel brands on measures to stop counterfeiting, bad-faith trademark applications and domain grabbing. He advises on strategies that can work even for start-ups which do not yet have a fully developed portfolio of name and trademark rights. Thorsten is known both as a strong and determined litigator in court and as a personable and enthusiastic legal counsel focusing on the specific needs of clients. Clients have reported that he is “practical, detailed and thorough, and has the ability to think strategically and pragmatically”.

With about 300 lawyers, as well as tax advisers and notaries, across eight offices in Germany and based in Brussels and Zurich, Heuking Kuehn Lueer Wojtek is one of the largest independent German firms. It offers clients the full range of legal and tax services. In 2012 the IP practice was nominated for the much-respected JUVE IP Firm of the Year award. In 2014 the practice won the JUVE Law Firm of the Year award for its IT work and it was nominated for its antitrust practice.
