Barbara has practised exclusively as a litigation lawyer in the personal injury jurisdiction for 15 years. Although she has predominantly practised in all aspects of medical malpractice, she also has considerable experience in public liability claims on behalf of several insurers. Barbara has also represented Australia's largest asbestos manufacturer and supplier in asbestos related claims which involved having to regularly meet very short timeframes due to the plaintiff's short life expectancy.

Barbara provides advice to, and represents, both public and private hospitals in a variety of matters including litigated and non-litigated medical negligence claims in the Supreme and County Courts, coronial inquests and complaints lodged with the Health Services Commissioner. Her key medical negligence client is the VMIA.

In addition to providing advice with respect to liability and quantum issues, Barbara also provides advice to health service providers with respect to their compliance with relevant health-based legislation including the Health Services Act, the Freedom of Information Act, the Wrongs Act and the Mental Health Act.

Barbara is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria Public Liability/Medical Negligence Committee. She has contributed to several submissions made on behalf of the LIV which have led to legislative changes.
