Brendan Smith is a Senior Vice President in Stout’s Valuation Advisory group.

Brendan focuses on advising clients on matters related to the valuation of alternative asset classes, including structured products, equity and credit derivatives, hedging instruments, and contingent payments for financial and tax reporting and other strategic purposes. Brendan also has a specific focus on advising Stout’s alternative investment management clients on matters related to portfolio valuation as well as the valuation of investment manager and general partner interests.

Prior to joining Stout, Brendan was an Associate with Arctaris Michigan Partners where he was responsible for managing all phases of the investment process, including transaction origination and financial, operational, legal, and management team due diligence. In addition, Brendan provided support to senior management of Arctaris portfolio companies in numerous functions, including accounting and budgeting, financial analysis, and operational restructuring.

Education

Mr. Smith is currently a candidate in the Master of Science in Financial Mathematics program at the University of Chicago. Mr. Smith has undergraduate degrees in Finance and Mathematics from Michigan State University and also studied financial markets at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Prior to joining Stout, Mr. Smith was an Associate with Arctaris Michigan Partners, a private investment firm that provides growth capital to lower middle-market businesses in Michigan. He was responsible for managing all phases of the investment process, including transaction origination and financial, operational, legal, and management team due diligence. In addition, Mr. Smith provided support to senior management of Arctaris portfolio companies in numerous functions, including accounting and budgeting, financial analysis, and operational restructuring.
