Profile

Camilo’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation.

As a member of the firm’s commercial litigation team, Camilo handles breach of contract disputes, business torts, securities litigation, product liability, and representing institutions in collecting debts. Camilo’s experience includes representing clients in cross-border disputes, with an emphasis on Latin America. Camilo also represented foreign clients in litigation arising out of an alleged international Ponzi scheme, including managing discovery and extensive motion practice in a complex declaratory judgment action initiated on behalf of a global financial institution.

From 2012 to 2014, Camilo served as a law clerk for the Honorable Patricia A. Seitz at the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Prior to rejoining the firm in 2015, Camilo was Senior Assistant City Attorney at the Office of the City Attorney, City of Miami Beach. From 2004 to 2006, he was a public school teacher with Teach for America in Los Angeles. He has also served the local community by performing pro bono work and through volunteering with the “Put Something Back Project” in Miami.

Camilo is admitted to practice before the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the US District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the US District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. 

Relevant Experience

  • Represented a major European bank in connection with lawsuits and arbitrations filed on behalf of customers seeking recovery from the estate of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities related to Madoff’s Ponzi scheme.
  • Represented a major domestic financial institution in enforcing contractual claims and collecting debts.
  • Represented a major US bank in federal and state court proceedings in connection with various disputes arising out of an alleged Ponzi scheme.
  • Represented an international real estate developer in connection with a breach of contract action in federal court.
  • Conducted an internal investigation on behalf of a major client pertaining to labor-related issues.
  • Participated in the preparation of a comprehensive report analyzing the feasibility of initiating international arbitration proceedings on behalf of a client against a foreign sovereign.
