Profile

Clay Cossé is a senior counsel in Dykema's Dallas office. Clay brings to the firm an extensive record of success in a broad array of practice areas, including commercial litigation, product liability, complex personal injury, trucking and transportation, oil and gas and energy, premises liability, professional liability, insurance disputes, and toxic torts.

Clay represents auto manufacturers in complex automotive personal injury litigation and regulatory matters involving crashworthiness of various systems, including airbags, seatbacks, safety belts, rollovers, planar crashworthiness, and handling/stability. He has served on a major auto manufacturer's national counsel team for its seatback litigation. Clay also represents forklift and tire manufacturers in personal injury and regulatory matters. Clay represents energy industry clients in tort and contract litigation of various types, including personal injury, property damage, nuisance/trespass, contract disputes, etc. Clay successfully defends trucking clients in motor vehicle crashes. He defends property owners in premises-liability cases of all kinds, including allegations of inadequate security, excessive-force, landlord-tenant disputes, and even slip-and-falls. Clay also defends insurance professionals in negligent-procurement litigation. Clay has even successfully defended a claim against a faithful performance bond arising out of allegations of judicial misconduct.

Clay has had the pleasure of counselling and advocating for clients—pre-suit, in litigation, at mediation, via summary judgment, and at trial—ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses.

Before attending law school, Clay had the privilege of studying the classics en route to earning his Bachelor of Arts from the Program of Liberal Studies at the University of Notre Dame. There, Clay whet his appetite for one-on-one, adversarial competition by serving as president and participant in Notre Dame’s Bengal Bouts, a charity boxing tournament serving the Holy Cross Missions in Bangladesh.
