Profile

Davis Smith regularly advises captive insurance companies, risk retention groups and self-insured funds on transactional, regulatory and tax matters. He counsels clients on tax and business strategies in a variety of industries, with a particular focus on participants in regulated industries, including insurance companies and investment advisors, and the professional services industry. He has extensive experience advising businesses on structuring and growing their businesses in a tax-efficient manner.

Davis routinely counsels insurance intermediaries (agencies or brokers) and other industry players on a variety of legal matters, including all aspects of regulatory compliance and transactions. That transactional experience includes managing and facilitating agency mergers, acquisitions, and corporate consolidations. He assists clients with the formation and licensing of managing general agencies, consultation on multi-state licensing projects for producers and agencies, and negotiation and drafting of distribution and marketing agreements.
