Profile

Eleni Chrysostomides is a Senior Partner, one of the founding members and head of the firms intellectual property department. She heads a team which delivers a complete range of services in all fields of IP including trademark, patent, design and copyright law. Eleni's team consists of experienced professionals who provide the firm's clients with sophisticated service. Testimony to this expertise is the fact that some of the world's most respected companies, representing a wide-variety of industries, have entrusted Eleni and her team with their IP portfolio for decades and continue to this day to rely on their skills and efficiency on a regular basis.

As part of her practice, Eleni handles the entire spectrum of IP matters including applications and legal actions before the Cyprus courts. In collaboration with the Litigation department of the firm, Eleni leads cases for the issuance of interlocutory injunctions restraining defendants from infringing trade marks, patents or copyright-protected material. Furthermore, her court experience and expertise go beyond interlocutory relief and her team handles complex court cases involving IP matters from the filing of a court action until a final judicial decision is issued.

Trade Marks
The scope of Eleni's trade mark work is broad. Eleni advises clients from diverse industries on all commercial aspects involving brands, including licensing, franchising and trade mark co-existence agreements as well as distribution agreements of branded products. Her team provides all types of pre-registration and post-registration services, including trade mark searches and clearance reports, renewals and trade mark watch services. In addition, Eleni handles a significant amount of trade mark opposition work, including invalidity and cancellation actions for trade marks as well as anti-counterfeiting.

Over the years, Eleni has been dealing extensively with prosecution and registration of trade marks in the Cyprus Trade Marks Registry, WIPO and EUIPO and she has been advising clients on their consumer branding and marketing efforts.

Patents
Eleni advises clients on a wide range of domestic and European and International patents. Her experience in the field comprises the registration of Cyprus national patents and the validation of European and PCT (EP) patents in Cyprus, the filing of SPC applications and applications for Paediatric extensions, all forms of commercial exploitation of patents, renewals and payments of annuities of patents. She represents clients in the fields of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, chemical manufacturing, plastics, electronic hardware, computer software, telecommunications and energy production, among many other technologies.

Just like with trade marks, when litigation is involved, Eleni and her team's patent lawyers work together with the firm's litigation / dispute resolution team to enforce or defend patent infringement claims on behalf of her clients.

Copyright
Copyright protection is a core practice of the firm's intellectual property department. Eleni has extensive experience in numerous copyright industries - including 'traditional' copyright areas such as artists' rights, music, art, publishing and entertainment, as well as the more modern industries of software and technology. Her clients include some of the world's most renowned companies in such industries, affirming the department's track record as one of the country's leading practices in this area.

She also frequently advises on fair use, ownership and title and is well-known for her copyright litigation expertise, notably in infringement cases.

Eleni and her team are at the forefront of the significant new copyright challenges presented by the digital revolution and have a full understanding of the current challenges, always making sure to keep abreast with the latest developments in this complicated area of copyright law.

Eleni leads IP Litigation cases in collaboration with the firm's litigation and dispute resolution department. Her detailed expert knowledge of IP law is crucial in such matters, particularly in interim applications restraining defendants in legal proceedings from infringing a trade mark, a patent or copyright protected material.

She has published numerous legal works both in Cyprus and in international legal journals. She is consistently recommended as a ‘Leading Lawyer' for Intellectual Property in numerous international legal directories. With more than 30 years of experience, she is involved in all complex litigation and dispute resolution matters involving intellectual property and leads a team of lawyers and IP consultants specialising in trade parks, patents, copyright and designs.
