Javier Marzo is a partner of the Corporate Department since 2004 and co-responsible of the Telecommunications & Media Industry. His main area of expertise is corporate law. He has participated in a number of M&A, acquisition finance and private equity transactions particularly in technology, telecoms, media, sports, energy and infrastructure companies, as well as privatizations and cross-border transactions in the some of the mentioned sectors. He also advises clients on general corporate matters on a regular basis. In the telecoms and media sector, Javier Marzo has been involved in many of the most relevant and complex transactions that took place in the last years in Spain, including IPOs. He has also wide experience in regulatory and contractual matters where he is recognized in the market as an expert. Javier Marzo advises telecom operators and media groups in connection with, among other matters, audiovisual rights, broadcast licenses, start-ups, license bids, special projects (such as content platforms, network sharing, outsourcing, fiber deployment or MVNOs), state aids and other proceedings before the telecommunications and media authorities. He was international associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York. He is co-responsible of the US Desk in Garrigues. Javier Marzo is included in several directories such as PLC Which Lawyer, Best Lawyers (selected Lawyer of the Year in Media, 2013) or Chambers & Partners, in the practice area of Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT). Also, Mr. Marzo was awarded with the ILO Client Choice Award 2010 in M&A, Spain. He lectured Communications Law at Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE) from 2004 to 2013. He has lectured Telecommunications and Media Law in different postgraduate programs (Instituto de Empresa, ICADE, Carlos III, CEU, Universidad Europea de Madrid). He is speaker at seminars and conferences in different institutions. Mr. Marzo is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.

Javier Marzo holds a Law Degree from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

European Union studies from the Universiteit van Amsterdan.

M.A. in International Relations (International Political Economy) from the University of Southern California (“la Caixa” Foundation fellowship).
