Profile

Jo is a specialist Employment Lawyer who joined Shoosmiths in September 2018. She has considerable experience advising on a variety of aspects of employment law, both in respect of contentious and non-contentious matters. Jo advises both company and individual clients.

Jo has developed particular specialisms in advising on employment-related data protection issues (including subject access requests and employee testing and monitoring) and employment-related issues in the financial services sector (including regulatory references and the SM&CR regime).

Additionally, she has significant experience of conducting Employment Tribunal claims for clients throughout the full lifecycle of proceedings, from receipt of the claim form to advocacy at hearings. Jo is adept at providing strategic advice and securing commercial solutions for employers during settlement negotiations.

Jo also has particular experience in advising on employment aspects of corporate transactions, including investments and acquisitions. Jo works closely with a number of corporate clients to provide tailored and solutions-focussed advice.

Some examples of her experience to date include the following:

  • Advising a respondent client on the successful defence of a complex race discrimination claim culminating in a 10 day final hearing with over 13 witnesses involved.
  • Developing a suite of Employment Tribunal documents for one of the UK’s largest supply chain and logistics companies,  including tailored submissions and applications in respect of Covid-related adjustments.
  • Successfully conducting the advocacy at numerous substantive preliminary hearings for a large retail client.

  • Delivering a two-day training workshop on grievances and disciplinaries to a national food retail business at multiple sites across the UK. 

  • Project managing a large-scale settlement agreement exercise involving over 30 redundancies for an insolvent financial services business, including advising individual clients, supervising the project team and reporting to the administrators on a regular basis.
