Profile

John is counsel in the property team with significant experience of both residential and commercial property transactions across Guernsey, Alderney and Sark, including in construction, leases and secured financing.

John also provides advice and in-depth analysis of property related issues directly to major corporate clients as well as in-house to the corporate, fiduciary and litigation teams and undertakes applications to the courts in respect of various orders to deal with inheritance, guardianships, trespass and like property matters.

John was lecturer for students sitting the Guernsey Bar Exams from 2013 to 2018 and was appointed as an adjunct professor for property law in advance of the changes to the Guernsey Bar examinations in 2019 and continues in that role reviewing and editing the Bar teaching manual in each academic year and assisting in the delivery of teaching to Bar students.

Education
John has a First Class Honours Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the Open University where he graduated in 2006 whilst in full time employment. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales at Middle Temple in 2009.
Having completed the Certificat d’Etudes Juridiques et Normandes at the University of Caen in Normandy and the Guernsey Bar exams he was called to the bar of the Royal Court of Guernsey as an Advocate in 2011.

Professional Career

Significant Accomplishments
John was employed for many years as a conveyancer and then senior conveyancer with Carey Olsen and was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales at Middle Temple in 2009 and admitted as an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey in 2011. John became a senior associate in 2012 and Counsel in 2022.
