Mark J. Magyar is a Member in the Business and Commercial Litigation group in Dykema’s Grand Rapids, Michigan office. Prior to joining Dykema, Mr. Magyar was a Litigation Associate with Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP in Chicago, and he remains admitted to practice law in the state courts of both Michigan and Illinois, as well as in the federal Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Eastern and Western federal district courts of Michigan, and the Northern District of Illinois federal court.

Mr. Magyar’s practice includes representation of clients in a variety of business and commercial litigation matters, including civil and regulatory proceedings, particularly consumer financial services litigation, commercial litigation, products liability defense, class action defense, white collar defense, and antitrust defense, as well as appellate practice and trust & estate litigation. Mr. Magyar’s litigation experience includes all aspects of the discovery, deposition, trial and appellate components of litigation. Some examples include his first chair of a five day trial in Cook County, Illinois resulting in a judgment of nearly $10 million for the client, and multiple oral arguments at the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Mr. Magyar’s pro bono experience includes assisting as Of Counsel in the drafting of the American Bar Association’s brief as amicus curiae to the Supreme Court of the United States in support of the prevailing respondents and attending the oral argument for Lafler v. Cooper, 132 S. Ct. 1376 (2012), as well as assisting in the briefing and attending the oral argument for the prevailing appellant on an evidentiary issue in the Michigan Supreme Court.

A magna cum laude graduate of Western Michigan University where he was a member of the Carl and Winifred Lee Honors College, Mr. Magyar earned his J.D. at the University of Michigan Law School, class of 2006.
