Mat's experience and passion intersect at the heart of energy, land-use, clean-technology, and environmental law.

Mat brings with him extensive experience, particularly in domestic and global matters impacting the environment. He is at home in the nuance of international, federal, state or local statutes and regulations, but believes deeply in the value of stepping out from behind the desk and "walking the land" with clients. And in all matters, Mat never tackles an issue without a healthy dose of results-oriented common sense.

Mat received his law degree from Boston College Law School where he was awarded an honors certification in Land-Use and Environmental Law. While in law school, Mat was selected as a Rappaport Honors Fellow and served as a legal clerk for both the U.S. Department of Justice (Environmental Enforcement Division) and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. Mat was also elected president of the Environmental Law Society.

Prior to law school, Mat served as the International Policy Director for one of the nation's largest environmental networks. In this capacity, he worked closely with the U.S. Department of State, members of Congress and the multilateral processes of the United Nations. Mat has written extensively on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, including international and domestic carbon markets. Mat also served two years in Teach for America and graduated from The George Washington University, magna cum laude.

Verrill Dana, LLP, August 2018

Most industry professionals are aware that a revised set of California Proposition 65 or “Prop. 65” regulations will take effect at the end of the month on August 30, 2018.  Prop. 65 is a so-called right-to-know statute that, among other things, requires manufacturers and retailers to provide any California consumer with a “clear and reasonable” warning prior to exposure to a chemical identified on a list developed and maintained by a California agency...
