Matthew represents public and private sector clients in high stakes litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts. His practice focuses on business and employee benefits litigation with an emphasis on the defense of class, representative and multiparty actions. Matthew regularly litigates disputes involving owners, shareholders, officers and directors of companies involving contract, fiduciary, fraud and trade secret claims and is well-versed in the Unfair Competition Law and the Consumer Legal Remedies Act. 

Matthew has extensive litigation and counseling experience with pension and retiree-medical issues arising under the County Employees Retirement Law of 1937, the Public Employees Retirement Law and city retirement systems. He also represents plan sponsors, plan administrators and fiduciaries in litigation involving the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974. 

Matthew is dedicated to providing pro bono legal services to the Bay Area community and has successfully represented clients in asylum petitions, licensing disputes and expungement proceedings. He recently served as a working group member to the Blue Ribbon Panel on Fairness and Accountability in Law Enforcement convened by the San Francisco District Attorney to investigate allegations of racial and other bias in the San Francisco Police Department.
