Mr. Gilman’s practice focuses on financial services litigation, with a primary emphasis on consumer financial services disputes.  He defends mortgage lenders and servicers in litigation involving the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Truth in Lending Act, Regulation X, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and contested foreclosures. 

Before joining Dykema, Mr. Gilman was Senior Claims Counsel for Fidelity National Title Group, comprised of Chicago Title Insurance Company, Ticor Title Insurance Company, Fidelity National Title Insurance Company, and Security Union Title Insurance Company.  As counsel to these title insurance companies, he evaluated and responded to claims made under title insurance products and escrow agreements and against Fidelity’s companies, as well as managed the litigation of title insurance, real estate and agency related disputes. These disputes included forgery, fraud, impersonation, defalcation, adverse possession, boundary line, encroachment, priority, mechanics lien, RESPA, and TILA claims.

Mr. Gilman is also experienced in counseling clients on commercial, contract, construction law, title insurance and mechanics lien disputes. He has participated in numerous mediations, arbitrations, and trials. He prepared briefs and orally argued appeals before the Illinois Appellate Court, the Illinois Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth and Seventh Circuits.
