Nick counsels clients in regards to obtaining, asserting, and defending international patent portfolios, particularly in the technical domains of artificial intelligence and machine learning, telecommunications, computer-software, fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrency, automotive technologies, and others.

Nick believes in creating a long-term strategy for his clients to engender business success rather than focusing on individual wins. For instance, when a client’s business scheme unexpectedly encountered a patent that could have proven to be a commercial obstacle, Nick worked with his client and the patent owner to negotiate an exclusive license for the client so that the erstwhile obstacle became a business asset. This approach gave the client certainty and enabled them to apportion the saved cost to explore other ideas.

Outside of work, Nick is often tinkering with anything and everything, and often in an effort to try and learn more about his clients’ technologies. When he’s not tinkering, he’s often under the hood of or in the driver seat of a race car, which energizes and informs his automotive IP practice.

Clients appreciate Nick’s insatiable curiosity, ingenuity, and desire to constantly improve upon technologies as well as the attorney-client partnership, which translates into a creative spirit he brings to every clients’ engagement.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Nick worked as a systems engineer for Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, where he undertook various classified projects for military defense technologies.
