Profile

Savitri is a partner in our property department where she specializes in real estate law with a particular interest in commercial real estate. She has also extended her practice into the areas of banking and finance law, and has worked with commercial banks, insurance companies and other lending institutions, as well as with private developers.

A good deal of Savitri's work involves advising lenders and developers on a wide range of capital projects. These include multi-party cross border transactions such as hotel financing, commercial and residential real estate developments, project finance, restructuring and timeshare.

Savitri also serves as a trusted advisor to several corporate conglomerates serving local and regional markets. The industries to which they belong include manufacturing, construction, merchandising, insurance and tourism.

A partner since 2003, Savitri was admitted to the Bar in her native Grenada in 1994. She was admitted to the Bar in Barbados in 1997, when she joined the legacy firm of Clarke & Co as an associate.

She earned her LL.B from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, in 1992 and obtained her Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding law School in Trinidad & Tobago in 1994. While at Hugh Wooding, she was awarded the Pelham Sloane Prize for conveyancing.

Outside of the firm, Savitri has sat on the land transfer committee of the Barbados Bar Association and given seminars to the Barbados Bar on the topic of conveyancing and registration of title. She has also tutored both current and aspiring real estate agents on real estate law for the Barbados Community College and for the Barbados Estate and Valuers Association, and conducted many training seminars for lending and risk officers.

In addition, Savitri has been asked to coach the Advance Alternative Dispute Resolution Workshop presented by the Stitt Feld Handy Group.
