Profile

Shannon Marie McKeon's practice covers all aspects of intellectual property law, with a focus on trademark portfolio management, enforcement and related branding issues.

For many years prior to joining Dykema, Ms. McKeon worked as a trademark paralegal and law clerk at two Am Law firms. Through those experiences, she acquired deep substantive knowledge in trademark prosecution and maintenance of U.S. and international trademark applications and registrations, enforcement of trademark rights, domain name/Internet related issues and opposition and cancellation proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Since then, Ms. McKeon has developed detailed knowledge and a high level of proficiency in all aspects of domain name/Internet law, including how to navigate the complicated procedural aspects associated with such matters. She has worked with countless domain name registrars (e.g., GoDaddy and Network Solutions) to implement and complete domain name transfers for many clients. In addition, Ms. McKeon has prepared, filed and prosecuted numerous complaints under ICANN's Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy, resulting in the transfer of many valuable domain names to a wide variety of clients.

Ms. McKeon has been a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) since January 2008. While serving on INTA’s esteemed Internet Committee, she drafted many comments and white papers regarding the regulation of the domain name system and other Internet-related matters, including ICANN’s roll-out of new gTLDs.

More recently, Ms. McKeon has assisted with financial regulatory matters, including crafting multi-state surveys and generating legal instructions on document retention projects.

Ms. McKeon is also very active in pro bono work. She has assisted pro bono clients in a number of family matters involving guardianship and child support issues and in immigration matters such as applications for U-Visas and petitions for asylum.

Prior to entering the legal field, Ms. McKeon worked in the airline industry, where she had the unique opportunity to travel the globe and experience many different cultures.
