Silvestre Arana is the head of the Energy practice area and the German Desk at Garrigues, where he has pursued his professional career since 2001, following a stint at COMPAÑÍA ESPAÑOLA DE PETRÓLEOS, S.A. (CEPSA), as Head of the International Legal Department and KLESCH & COMPANY LIMITED (London) as in-house counsel. He specializes in the areas of M&A, project finance, joint venture agreements and commercial contracts, such as, without limitation: turnkey construction contracts, operation and maintenance agreements, PPA’s, crude oil and petrol supply and sale and purchase agreements, hydrocarbon production and exploration agreements, transportation agreements, off-take agreements, etc. He has a wealth of expertise in energy law and the energy practice area, taking in everything from the energy industry (generation under both the ordinary and special regimes, i.e., renewable energies) to the hydrocarbon sector (up, mid and downstream activities) including both oil & gas. He has also garnered experience in maritime law, above all in the field of oil and LNG transportation. Silvestre Arana has been singled out for inclusion in various directories, such as Chambers & Partners (Chambers Global and Chambers Europe) as one of Spain’s leading lawyers in the energy practice area (Band 1) as well as M&A and the German Desk. As far as teaching is concerned, he has lectured on the Energy Law Master’s Program at Instituto de Empresa and the Master’s Degree in Maritime Business and Law at ICADE. He has contributed to a range of energy law-related courses organized by IIR and IFAES.
