Simon Ball is a specialist in environment, planning and mining law with a proven track record across all aspects of project approvals for large resources, energy, and infrastructure projects.

He has extensive experience advising major private and public sector clients on complex environmental planning and protection, native title, mining and petroleum, and administrative law.

Prior to joining MinterEllison, Simon worked in a top 100 ASX listed corporation as a civil and environmental engineer and for the then Department of Primary Industries (Mineral Resources) as a senior policy and legal advisor. Simon's unique background, having worked as both an engineer and lawyer, and both for government and private practice, enables him to provide legal advice with a strong practical and commercial focus. He has extensive experience advising major public and private sector clients on complex environmental planning and protection, native title, mining and petroleum, and administrative law. He provides government with practical and commercially focussed advice on approval pathways and strategies for large infrastructure projects.

Simon is also a qualified Above Ground Mine Manager and has managed various quarries in the NSW construction industry.
Simon' s unique background, having worked as both an engineer and lawyer, and both for government and private practice, enables him to be able to provide legal advice with a strong practical and commercial focus.
