Profile

Atkins Roberts practices primarily in the areas of commercial finance and real estate, with a strong emphasis on affordable housing and community development, representing developers (including non-profit corporations) and lenders throughout the Southeast in numerous transactions involving low-income housing tax credits (federal and state). Atkins also works frequently with other conventional and subsidized financing sources such as HOME funds, Affordable Housing Program (AHP) funds, Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), and tax-exempt bond financing, as well as other financing programs from HUD, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and USDA Rural Development. Additionally, he is outside general counsel to the Alabama Affordable Housing Association (AAHA), which is the affordable housing trade association for the State of Alabama.

Atkins is fluent in Spanish and has also worked closely with members of the firm's Corporate and Securities and Construction and Government Contracts practice groups to assist a number of clients with projects in Latin American markets. His experience in these types of projects includes licensing of intellectual property, negotiating distribution and agency agreements, mergers and acquisitions, forming Mexican and Argentine subsidiary entities for U.S. corporations, negotiating architectural services agreement, establishing warehouse operations and manufacturing plants in Mexico, and representing the owner in a legal dispute regarding power plant construction in Panama.

Atkins currently serves as chair of Bradley’s Business Development and Marketing Committee, leading the firm's strategy for business development, marketing communications and marketing technology.
