Profile

Travis brings a sophisticated understanding of policy and the law, a breadth of experience, and a keen eye for detail to the matters he handles. This equates to superlative client representation firmly rooted in the fundamentals of litigation, yet adapted to suit a client’s needs in an ever-changing legal landscape.

Travis’ practice primarily focuses on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation, particularly patent litigation. His experience covers a wide range of technologies and industries, including biotechnology and the life sciences, as well as electronics, lighting, software, and telecommunications. Travis has worked with Fortune 500 companies, as well as private inventors, both domestically and abroad, and across a diverse array of venues.

Travis has handled matters from complaint, to early motion practice, through discovery, summary judgment, and to trial. Recent highlights include representation of clients in:

  • a life sciences patent inventorship trial, which was one of the first entirely virtual bench trials to occur in the District of Massachusetts during the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • a complex patent enforcement matter spanning multiple venues, including a post-grant review proceeding before the USPTO; and
  • defense of a Fortune 500 company in a dispute with an NPE in federal district court.

Prior to joining Verrill, Travis clerked for the Honorable Thomas J. LaConte, P.J.Ch. (retired) in the Superior Court of New Jersey's General Equity Division. During law school, Travis simultaneously worked part time as a legal research assistant to the Minnesota House of Representatives; a research assistant to Professor Tom Cotter, assisting him in researching intellectual property topics related to his blog on comparative patent remedies as well as related academic literature; and as Managing Editor and Articles Editor for the Minnesota Journal of Law, Science & Technology, during which he earned distinction as the 2017 editor of the year.

In his free time, Travis enjoys traveling to new places and visiting friends and family in his home state of North Dakota.
