Profile

Vivian has practiced law for 17 years, during which time her work has been cited for excellence by authoritative publications such as The Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, Latin Lawyer, Who’s Who Legal and IFLR 1000. According to Chambers & Partners, Vivian is one of the few female lawyers specializing in Banking & Finance. She has held a ranking in this practice area by IFLR 1000 and Latin Lawyer since 2009. Additionally, Latin Lawyer has designated her as one of the “Inspiring Women in Law.” In Business Law, one of her three disciplines, she advises multinational corporations in day-to-day affairs and transactions, as well as in mergers & acquisitions. In Banking & Finance, she utilizes her extensive knowledge of credit facilities and financing on behalf of international banks and financial institutions. Vivian began her legal career as an International Associate at Greenberg Traurig in New York. After moving to the Costa Rican law firm González Uribe, Vivian left there in 2004 to join a promising firm of great young lawyers. She became BLP’s first female partner in 2008. Vivian earned a Law degree with Honors from the Universidad de Costa Rica and an LLM from Harvard Law School. She is the coordinator of the Pro-Bono Commission of the Costa Rican Bar Association and a Director of the National Advisory Board on Social Responsibility. She is also a member of the New York State Bar Association (International Chapter), a founding member of the Costa Rican Harvard – MIT Club, a founding member of Harvard Latin America & Friends Shared Interest Group, and a Board Director of the Business Alliance for Development, the Costa Rican chapter of the United Way. In-house, she serves as Director of the BLP Foundation as well as Director of BLP’s Gender Equality Commission. Vivian actively promotes the corporate social responsibility program for BLP employees, and also coordinates the Firm’s Sustainability Management Program. Her efforts have yielded BLP Blue Flag Ecological recognition from government entities for four consecutive years. In 2015, largely due to her efforts, BLP became the first law firm designated “Carbon Neutral Country Brand” in Costa Rica. In 2016, Vivian was chosen to represent Costa Rica before the Steering Committee of the Women in the Profession Program at the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice in New York City. Vivian is based in San Jose, Costa Rica.
