January, 2021 - Luís Felipe Aguiar de Andrade

Ministry of Agriculture, Cattle Raising and Supply publishes Ordinance establishing working group for the development of the strategic agenda for sustainable agriculture.

On February 1, 2021, the Ministry of Agriculture, Cattle Raising and Supply ("MAPA") published  Ordinance No. 26 ("Ordinance"), establishing the working group for the development of the strategic agenda for sustainable agriculture.

The strategic agenda, of an advisory nature, has the purpose of proposing measures and coordinating actions aimed at the development of initiatives necessary for the Federal Government's action, through MAPA, for the sustainability of agriculture and cattle raising.

Among the tasks of the working group, we highlight:

  • define criteria for joint government action that will raise current standards of sustainability for agriculture and fisheries in Brazil;

  • define innovation and sustainability goals;

  • designing medium- and long-term scenarios that will enable the goals to be met by 2030 and sector innovation prospects for 2050;

  • issue opinions and recommendations on topics of sustainable development of Brazilian agriculture.

Further, the working group will have a duration of 60 days, counting from the publication of the Ordinance and its participation will be considered relevant public service provision, with no remuneration.

The Ordinance came into force on the date of its publication.

Veirano's environmental and agribusiness team is highly experienced on the subject and is available to provide further clarification.
