Myanmar: Deadline Nears for Companies and Non-profits to Register for Tax ID Number

The Ministry of Planning and Finance issued Notification 20/2022 on 31 March 2022 reiterating that companies and non-profit organizations were required to obtain a Taxpayer Identification Numbers (“TIN”) with the Internal Revenue Department (“IRD“).

Under this Notification, companies and non-profit organizations that have not yet secured a TIN must apply for one by these deadlines:

Taxpayer	Deadline
1. For companies and organizations that were registered with the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration before 1 April 2022 but have not yet secured for a TIN	Before 30 June 2022
2. For non-profit organizations that were registered with a Myanmar government agency before 1 April 2022 but have not yet secured for a TIN	Before 30 June 2022
3. For companies, organizations and non-profit organizations that are incorporated or registered on or after 1 April 2022	Within 90 days from the date of incorporation or registration

Please note the taxpayer will use the TIN for the purposes of tax payments, correspondences with the IRD, and business transactions (e.g., application for export and import licenses and tender bids).

This Notification became effective on 1 April 2022.
