HIPAA Privacy Primer for Group Health Plans The HIPAA Privacy regulations will apply to group health plans beginning on April 14, 2003. The HIPAA Privacy regulations require changes in group health plan contracts and operations and impact the entire organization sponsoring the group health plan. This program will review how the HIPAA privacy regulations, including the most recent modifications, apply to group health plans and their sponsors, and discuss implementation steps for a privacy compliance program. The program will also look at how the final HIPAA security regulations, if issued, will impact group health plans. The impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 on HIPAA Privacy compliance will also be addressed. The program will conclude with a quick review of how the HIPAA Privacy regulations will impact a law firm as a business associate of other covered entities and as health plan sponsor.
