Dinsmore’s Sam Brinker Named Top LGBTQ+ Lawyer Under 40

March, 2020 - United States of America

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP’s Sam G. Brinker has been named a National LGBT Bar Association 2020 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyer Under 40.

The 40 young professionals awarded are distinguished in their field and have demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBTQ+ equality. The honorees will be recognized at the annual Lavender Law Conference in August.

“To be thought of as the ‘best’ anything is quite an honor,” said Brinker. “There is no doubt this award is meaningful. Of course—as I am sure is the case with my fellow awardees–I’ve never done anything that I do simply for awards. I do the work in the community, at my desk, and around the firm because I’m all in on both my commitment to serving the LGBTQ+ community and to do good work for my colleagues and our clients. When you’re all in, that’s when you get a genuine opportunity—a privilege really—to go out into a historically underserved, underrepresented, and under-resourced community and actually help and hopefully change lives. To me, that’s what is most meaningful.”

Brinker believes the key to success is adaptability, and he credits the development of his adaptation skills to his experience as a trans man. His dedication to clients, colleagues, and the community enables him to adapt to the needs of all three. As a result, they appreciate how he uses his personal experiences to serve them honestly and with commitment.

Brinker is a member of the National LGBT Bar Association, is on the board of directors for Living with Change (a non-profit that supports transgender youth) and is serving as a co-chair of this year’s Human Rights Campaign Dinner & Silent Auction in Columbus.

“Sam is a difference-maker with all the guts and wisdom that requires, and then some,” said John Selent, partner and coordinator of In Law & Equity, Dinsmore’s LGBTQ affinity group. “Dinsmore is immensely proud of him.”

In 2019, In Law & Equity held its first nationwide meeting. The group has grown to over 160 members. Dinsmore has also sponsored numerous LGBTQ-focused events around the country, including the 11th Annual Greater Cincinnati HRC Color Ball last month.

After graduating as valedictorian from the University of Dayton School of Law, Brinker came to Dinsmore in 2015 and focuses his practice on real estate matters. There is no client too small or big. Brinker has worked with single-asset owners, Fortune 50 companies and clients of all sizes in between. He also works with a variety of property types, including office buildings, shopping centers and other retail and mixed-use sites, industrial and manufacturing facilities, and warehousing and distribution centers.
