Verrill Signs Pledge in Support of Advancing Diversity & Inclusion in Connecticut Legal Community

(March 10, 2020) – Verrill has officially joined the Connecticut Bar Association in its ongoing commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the region’s legal community by signing “The Connecticut Legal Community’s Diversity & Inclusion Pledge.” (CBA Pledge)

Accompanying the CBA Pledge is a six year-plan for Signatories, beginning with a focus on infrastructure-building, self-assessment, and reporting in year one and ending with continued assessment and changes as necessary in year six and onward.

Verrill is and has been a leader in diversity and inclusion for more than four decades. Verrill was not only the first major law firm in Maine to elect a woman managing partner, but also has a number of women serving in elected and appointed leadership roles throughout the firm, including on the Senior Administrative Team, as Practice and Industry Group Chairs, Committee Leaders, and as Partner-in-Charge of a regional office. Verrill’s Executive Board is also majority female, including the Board Chair. Verrill has supported a number of initiatives related to diversity and inclusion in its respective areas, including as a founding firm of the brand new Maine D1L program for diverse first year law students. The firm’s strong female leadership continues to be recognized by national rankings for success in attracting, retaining, and promoting female attorneys, including being named "Ceiling Smasher" and "Top Law Firms for Women" by Law360, as well as ranking in National Law Journal's "NLJ 500 Women's Scorecard."
