Haynes and Boone’s Precision Medicine and Digital Health Practice Group Continues to Expand

August, 2020 - Dallas, Texas

Haynes and Boone LLP’s Precision Medicine and Digital Health Practice Group has enjoyed significant growth since the firm hired San Francisco lawyers Roger Kuan and Jason Novak to establish the practice several months ago.

Since July, the group has hired three new professionals: Associate Joan Wang, Ph.D. (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), a registered patent attorney in the Austin office; Associate Noble C. Woo, Ph.D. (Physics), a patent agent in the Orange County office; and Daniel Kennedy, Ph.D. (Biophysics), a patent agent in the Palo Alto office.

“We are thrilled to be able to add such a talented group of individuals to our practice,” said Kuan, partner and chair of the Precision Medicine and Digital Health Practice Group. “Haynes and Boone is becoming better equipped by the day to provide emerging life sciences clients with a comprehensive suite of skills and services and a strong team of practitioners.”

Dr. Wang has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a range of technology areas, including biotechnology, diagnostics, biologics, precision medicine, digital health, medical devices (e.g., wound care and microfluidics, etc.), machine learning, software, hardware, and computer networks and devices in the U.S. and worldwide.

Dr. Woo’s practice focuses on the prosecution of foreign and domestic patent applications in technology areas of biotechnology and medical devices for cell/gene therapy, 3D printing, medical imaging, MRI technologies, robotics and artificial intelligence-based technologies.

Dr. Kennedy has developed patent portfolios for clients in the medical devices, biotechnology, electronics, and transportation industries where he interfaced with inventors and chief scientific officers to translate technical ideas into legally defensible concepts; drafted and prosecuted patent applications; conducted IP diligence analyses; and directed patent prosecution strategy for a variety of startups.

Haynes and Boone plans to soon open a San Francisco office, where Kuan and Novak will be based along with other lawyers and staff. Since late March, the firm has also added eight other lawyers to its Palo Alto office — led by Partner Roger Royse, an experienced advisor to venture funds, mid-market companies, and technology startups.

Haynes and Boone’s Precision Medicine and Digital Health Practice Group provides full-service counsel to the key players in precision medicine and digital health – from technology startups to established corporations, non-profit research institutions, universities, hospital systems, pharmaceuticals, and investors supporting the industry. Lawyers on team draw on the firm’s highly regarded healthcare, life sciences, technology and intellectual property experience to address trends in evolving markets, cutting-edge advances in technology, and legal and regulatory changes.
