Partner Lisa Hodgdon Joins Dinsmore in Tampa as COVID-Related Employment Litigation Rises

September, 2020 - United States of America

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP is pleased to announce the expansion of its Tampa office with the addition of partner of counsel, Lisa Hodgdon.

Hodgdon has spent more than 20 years as a labor and employment and commercial litigator. Over the last few years however, she has found that her practice has transitioned primarily to providing advice and guidance to employers on various labor and employment issues that arise in the workplace.

“Transitioning to the counseling side allows me to get involved early, in the hope of keeping my clients out of litigation,” Hodgdon said. “Dinsmore has an excellent labor and employment department, and I am excited to work with them.”

With the COVID-19 pandemic, employers are increasingly finding themselves facing unprecedented claims.

“Handling labor and employment law during a pandemic has been keeping me extremely busy,” Hodgdon said. “This has and continues to be a very challenging time for employers. This is not business as usual. This situation is very fluid. Many employers with little notice were required to shift to telework and navigate all the issues that arise with a remote workforce, furlough or lay off employees, ensure compliance with new leave laws, develop return to work plans that adhere to the CDC’s most recent guidelines and more. I feel fortunate to be able to assist clients navigate the uncharted waters.”

Hodgdon is the seventh attorney in Dinsmore’s Tampa office, which opened in February and joins from Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. Her experience includes handling litigation involving policies such as Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Federal Civil Rights Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, and whistleblower and retaliation claims.

“We are thrilled to have Lisa join us,” stated Tampa office managing partner, Rob Sickles. “I have known Lisa for 20 years and she is a top notch employment attorney and a fantastic person. Her addition will allow the firm to better serve its clients across Florida by complimenting Dinsmore’s national employment practice with local expertise.”

Hodgdon attended Florida State University and earned her J.D. from Stetson University College of Law.

When not litigating or counseling clients, Hodgdon enjoys spending time with her family and giving back to her community. Hodgdon advocates on behalf of children with the Guardian Ad Litem Program. The program acts as a voice for Florida’s abused, abandoned, and neglected children. Hodgdon has worked with the organization since 1994.
