The Employment Law Alliance (ELA), the world’s largest network of labour, employment and immigration attorneys, recently honoured Sivabalah Nadarajah of Shearn Delamore & Co. as its “Sheldon N. Sandler Award” recipient.

The “Sheldon N. Sandler Award” recognizes members of the ELA who have made “extraordinary and lasting contributions to the organization.” It is named in honour of attorney and long-time contributor Sheldon (“Shel”) N. Sandler, of Delaware member firm Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP and is bestowed annually.

In conferring the award on Sivabalah Nadarajah, who was a Director of the ELA for 8 years and Head of the ELA’s Asia Pacific region for over 6 years, Stephen J. Hirschfeld, Founder and CEO of the ELA said “Asia Pacific is a massive region and I am certain that it is the most varied and diverse both in term of languages, locations and culture. Siva has really been the glue that’s pulled that region together. It’s now one of the most the vibrant regions in the organization; the amount of referrals coming out of Asia Pacific is dramatic, the conferences that Siva has been a huge part of in conjunction of the IPBA has been one of the glues that has pulled all these myriad places together throughout that region and really has been the heart and soul of Asia Pacific and we are going to miss him dearly on the board and thank God he not retiring from the organization as he continues to be a major player in the ELA and so on behalf of the organization, I want to thank you so much.”

In reply, Siva said, “I am most honoured and grateful for this Award. Joining the ELA was one of the best decisions I have made. Our Firm has been greatly enriched by our membership with our reach on employment matters being extended throughout the globe. Serving on the Board of Directors and Chairing the APAC Committee was a rewarding and wonderful experience which further cemented the strong ties and camaraderie I have with many of the members. Thank you once again for the award and my firm and I will continue to be active in the ELA.”

Siva is the Head of Shearn Delamore & Co.’s Employment and Administrative Law Practice. Sivabalah has rich experience in trade disputes, collective bargaining, contracts of service, employment issues, industrial actions, judicial reviews, law on dismissals, mergers and acquisitions, minimum wage, occupational health and safety, reorganisations and retrenchment, statutory benefits, and union recognition. He has appeared extensively in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Federal Court and the then Supreme Court, principally for judicial review applications and appeals.

A graduate of the University of Malaya (LL.B (Hons), Siva is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. He has been recognised by the Chambers Asia-Pacific, The Legal 500 Asia-Pacific, Who’s Who Legal, Asialaw Leading Lawyers and Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific as one of the leading employment and labour lawyers.
