New Zealand’s first primary sector consortium launches

Trust Alliance New Zealand (TANZ), the country’s first national blockchain consortium focused on the primary sector, launched this week drawing significant media interest.

The consortium, that aims to provide a platform for sharing data, uses blockchain to add reliability, security, and transparency to supply chains.

MinterEllisonRuddWatts Partner, Jeremy Muir, Senior Corporate Counsel, Peter Rowe, with assistance from Senior Solicitor, Bryan Ventura, were involved in the design and establishment of the TANZ consortium, acting for Track Back Limited. Track Back is the operator of the technology of behind TANZ the consortium.

Partner Jeremy Muir believes in the “disruptive potential of technology” and has worked with most of the players in New Zealand’s blockchain industry to develop new tools for finance and business.

“The Trust Alliance New Zealand applies technology to solve problems and create efficiency for primary sector participants, so we were pleased to help develop the legal models for the consortium and help bring people together. TANZ is great for our clients and for anyone who needs to make data work harder and be more easily shared in a key sector of the New Zealand economy,” says Jeremy Muir.

The firm is also one of the 23 members of the Trust Alliance, which includes some of New Zealand’s largest businesses and organisations.
