Sanction Reduced For Ore. Atty Who Posted Client Info

"David J. Elkanich, an attorney representing Conry, told Law360 on Monday that the Supreme Court's opinion sets a new precedent that holds that lawyers do have a right to respond to a client's false statements online, as long as the response is within reason and to the extent that the lawyer believes is reasonably necessary.

"Although we are disappointed that the court imposed discipline, Mr. Conry is thankful that the court reduced the sanction to a reprimand, finding that a suspension would be 'too harsh' given 'the difficult issues presented in this case — one of first impression before this court,'" said Elkanich as he quoted the opinion."
